Welcome to the Autumn Term in Crenver Class - Year 5 & 6.

We have had a wonderful start to the year.

To start the year off, we have been taking part in a whole school project focusing on 'The Lost Words' by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris.

The book begins:

‘Once upon a time, words began to vanish from the language of children. They disappeared so quietly that at first almost no one noticed – fading away like water on stone. The words around them: acorn, adder, bluebell, bramble, conker – gone!

Fern, heather, kingfisher, otter, raven, willow, wren...all of them gone. The words were becoming lost: no longer vivid in children’s voices, no longer alive in their stories.’

The children in Crenver Class have already produced some incredible poems using metaphors, similes and alliteration to describe a woodland creature or plant. They have also shown off their artistic talents by illustrating and painting the subject of their poems.

A fantastic start to the year!

This half term we will be learning about the Ancient Egyptians and the influence they have had on the modern world.  We will be basing our writing outcomes in English on the Egyptians by writing a biography about the pharaoh queen Hatshepsut and an adventure story set in Ancient Egypt.

Reading

We look forward to developing a love of reading with your child. At Crowan Primary, we believe Reading is the key to unlocking educational and lifetime opportunities. We really welcome your support with this and ask for you to read with your child at least five times a week and log this in their reading records.

PE

This half term we will be swimming on Wednesday and have outdoor games on Friday. although this does sometimes change depending on our busy schedule. Please ensure your child's PE kit is in school every day and all items are clearly labelled so to ensure everything makes its way back to the correct child.

Homework

Please continue to practice times tables on TTRS, grammar on Rollama and spellings on Edshed.
